    What is aluminium die casting?

    Aluminium die casting is a process whereby aluminium is heated at a very high temperature until it becomes molten. Once molten, the aluminium can then be injected into a mould or die, left to cool and solidify, creating aluminium parts or components shaped in the reverse of the die. 

    There are many aluminium alloys available for the casting process, offering a variety of properties which can be seen across numerous products such as lawn mowers, engine blocks, everyday items (furniture, home appliances), and power tools.

    What are the advantages of Aluminium die casting?
    • Weight saving – Aluminium is less dense than other commonly used casting materials such as Zinc meaning finished components will weigh less.
    • Easily machined – where secondary operations such as drilling, milling or turning are required, Aluminium excels given its softer mechanical properties.
    • Heat Resistant – Aluminium is extremely heat resistant and can withstand the highest operating temperatures of all the die casting alloys.
    • Corrosion Resistance – Aluminium has excellent corrosion resistance and should be specified for products which will be used in a harsh environments.
